Payroll Manager

  • Location: Near Richfield, OH Area
  • Hybrid: Mix of in office and work from home each week (must currently live in the area)
  • Compensation: Target $90,000–$120,000 base salary + bonus (if close to what you are seeking, lets talk and I'll see if there's flexibility to go higher)

Opportunity Overview

A fast-growing company in the manufacturing / retail industry is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and own full-cycle, multi-state payroll operations for a 1,600+ person workforce. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role within a mid-sized, fast-paced organization, ideal for someone who thrives on accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement. The role is hybrid, based near Richfield, OH, offering a blend of in-office collaboration and remote flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process biweekly, full-cycle payroll for 1,600+ employees across multiple states using ADP
  • Ensure accurate payroll tax calculations and filings (federal, state, local)
  • Manage year-end processes including W-2s, 941s, and ACA reporting
  • Collaborate with HR, Accounting and Finance to support general ledger postings, payroll funding, and month-end close
  • Monitor and reconcile payroll-related accounts, benefits, and deductions (401k, insurance, bonuses, etc.)
  • Handle employee inquiries with professionalism, confidentiality, and urgency
  • Administer and maintain timekeeping systems and ensure compliance with FLSA and internal policies
  • Implement and improve payroll procedures, controls, and documentation
  • Assist with system upgrades, integrations, and audits (internal, external, regulatory)
  • Stay up-to-date on payroll laws and lead compliance efforts across multiple jurisdictions

Ideal Background

  • 5+ years of full-cycle, multi-state payroll experience in a high-volume environment
  • Expertise with ADP payroll systems (Workforce Now or equivalent)
  • Proven ability to manage compliance, deadlines, and sensitive data with precision
  • Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, labor laws, FLSA, garnishments, benefits, and 401(k) administration
  • Familiarity with GL accounting, journal entries, and payroll-related reconciliations
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to data integrity
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred or equivalent experience
  • CPP certification (Certified Payroll Professional) is a plus
