Job Description

Job Summary:

The Pharmacist will dispense drugs prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and provide information to patients about medications and their use.They may advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects of medications.They will be responsible for preparing customized medications tailored to meet specific patient needs. This role involves formulating, mixing, and dispensing prescription medications in compliance with regulatory guidelines. They ensure accuracy, quality, and safety while working collaboratively with healthcare providers and pharmacy staff.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Review prescriptions for accuracy, determine necessary ingredients, and assess the suitability of prescribed medications. Provide guidance on drug interactions, side effects, dosages, and proper storage.
  • Assess the identity, strength, and purity of medications. Compound and dispense medications as prescribed by healthcare providers, including overseeing calculations, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
  • Accurately compound and dispense medications based on physician prescriptions.
  • Follow precise formulas and protocols to create customized dosage forms, including creams, ointments, gels, capsules, suspensions, and suppositories.
  • Ensure all compounded medications meet required standards for potency, purity, and sterility.
  • Maintain comprehensive records, including pharmacy files, patient profiles, inventory logs, controlled substance registries, and radioactive nuclei control records.
  • Plan, implement, and maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals in compliance with policy and legal requirements to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
  • Provide specialized services to assist patients in managing conditions such as diabetes, asthma, hypertension, and tobacco cessation. Promote health by training patients in the use of medical devices like blood pressure monitors and glucose meters.
  • Advise patients on the selection of over-the-counter medications, medical equipment, and healthcare supplies.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate drug regimens, offering expert advice on drug usage and characteristics.
  • Analyze prescribing trends to ensure patient compliance and prevent excessive usage or harmful drug interactions.
  • Order, purchase, and maintain pharmaceutical and medical supply inventories, ensuring proper storage and handling.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
  • Must hold a valid Wyoming Board of Pharmacy License
  • Certification in Pharmaceutical Compounding (preferred but not mandatory).

Experience

  • Experience with non-sterile and/or sterile compounding processes.
