Job Description

As a Commissioning Agent, you will play a critical role in ensuring that building MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems are designed, constructed, and operated to meet the highest standards of performance, efficiency, and reliability as outlined in project requirements. This position combines hands-on fieldwork with strategic collaboration, requiring you to work closely with owner groups, design professionals, construction teams, and facilities operators to deliver fully functional and optimized systems in commercial and industrial buildings. Your responsibilities will include conducting detailed inspections, performing functional performance testing, troubleshooting system issues, and verifying that MEP systems—such as HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, and building automation systems—meet design intent and operational goals. You will also prepare comprehensive commissioning reports, document system performance, and provide actionable recommendations to ensure long-term energy efficiency and occupant comfort. By fostering strong communication and coordination among project stakeholders, you will help bridge the gap between design, construction, and operation, ensuring seamless project delivery and client satisfaction. This role demands technical expertise, attention to detail, and a passion for sustainable building performance, offering the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the functionality and environmental footprint of diverse building projects.

At kW, we’re proud of our passionate, creative, fun, and diverse team. We’re looking for someone who shares our values and commitment to sustainability, continuous learning, and making a measurable difference in how buildings operate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute commissioning plans, schedules, and functional performance testing procedures.
  • Conduct on-site inspections and verification of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and control systems.
  • Perform hands-on diagnostics using industry tools and equipment to troubleshoot and verify system performance.
  • Analyze test data, identify deficiencies, and collaborate with project teams to develop and track corrective actions.
  • Ensure all systems are installed and operating according to design documents, owner requirements, and industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including commissioning reports, test procedures, logs, and punch lists.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to contractors and design teams during installation and start-up.
  • Participate in design reviews and coordination meetings to ensure commissioning is integrated throughout project phases.
  • Conduct final commissioning reviews and produce comprehensive documentation for project closeout.

Perform other duties as needed.

What you Need

  • 2–4 years of experience in building commissioning, design, construction, or related fieldwork involving building systems.
  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, construction management, architecture, or a related field. An associate degree with applicable experience is also acceptable.
  • Familiarity with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and control systems, and how they interact in real-world building operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Proficiency using diagnostic tools and commissioning software for testing and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of commissioning processes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, LEED, or other industry best practices).
  • Certifications such as CCP, BCxP, LEED AP, or PE are a plus.
  • Clear communication skills, solid technical writing, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
